About The Position

We at the Potomac Center/SETT facility provide quality person-centered support to adults with intellectual disabilities at our campus in Hagerstown, Maryland. Our aim is to partner with the community to help our residents achieve their goals. The Potomac Center is a 62-bed licensed Intermediate Care Facility (ICF). This program focuses on using therapeutic interventions to empower residents as they learn the skills they need to successfully return to community living. The Secure Evaluation and Therapeutic Treatment (SETT) Program, located within the Potomac Center campus, is a 32-bed licensed Forensic Residential Center that provides services to individuals with intellectual disabilities and court involvement within a safe and secure environment. The program provides assistance as they resolve their court involvement and work toward transitioning to a less secured environment. The SETT utilizes active treatment as well as providing evaluation, assessment and competency attainment education.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or high school equivalency certificate acceptable to the Maryland State Board of Education.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • U.S. Citizenship or Resident Alien status.
  • Must provide a telephone number where they can be reached.
  • Must successfully complete the training prescribed by the Maryland Correctional Training Commission for a Correctional Officer during their probationary period.
  • Must meet the selection standards required by the Maryland Correctional Training Commission.
  • Must pass a background investigation.
  • Must pass an oral interview.
  • Must pass a physical examination.
  • Must be subject to substance abuse testing.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with mentally and/or intellectually disabled or forensic populations.
  • Experience and/or knowledge of the methods and procedures in maintaining the security of persons and property.

Responsibilities

  • Covering a routine security shift(s) as assigned (evening shift).
  • Conducting security rounds of the facility checking the physical security.
  • Checking fire extinguishers and other safety equipment.
  • Reporting any safety or security related defects or anomalies.
  • Monitoring the security video during their watch.
  • Responding to all codes to assist with resident and staff safety.
  • Monitoring the Center’s gate and access to the Center.
  • Being on call to any emergency at the facility as necessary.
