About The Position

The Security Associate is a boots-on-the-ground member of Carvana’s Safe & Secure team, responsible for protecting associates, customers, and vehicles at a Carvana location. The position helps keep the site safe and operational in changing weather conditions, monitors gates and site activity, supports emergency response, identifies hazards, and maintains accurate vehicle tracking. The role is hourly and reports to a Safe & Secure Functional Lead or Manager. The role involves serving as the gate’s point of contact for associates, vendors, and visitors; using security platforms and access technologies; documenting vehicle movements; conducting vehicle scans, safety audits, and location research; and sharing accurate reports with leadership. The associate works with Inspection Center and Logistics teams and is trained in first aid, CPR, and AED use. The facility operates 24/7, and gates must be staffed at all times. The listed schedule options are Wed–Fri, 2–10:30 PM and Sat–Sun, 12–8:30 PM; or Fri–Sun, 7:30 PM–4 AM and Mon–Tues, 5 PM–1:30 AM. Open availability is highly preferred. Pay is $17 per hour.

Requirements

1–2 years of experience in a customer service environment.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Demonstrated sound decision-making in a complex, fast-moving environment.
Ability to build working relationships and connect with people quickly.
Ability to organize, plan, and execute multiple tasks in a fast-paced setting.
Ability to handle conflict in a positive, productive way.
Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
Must be at least 18 years old.
Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds independently and carry and transport up to 60 pounds up to 20 feet.
Ability to stand for extended periods and frequently stretch, reach, walk, stoop, push, and pull.
Excellent visual acuity and manual dexterity.
Ability to use required safety equipment and protective garments.
Ability to drive frequently and perform computer data entry.
Must adhere to regular and predictable attendance.
Must pass a complete background check.

Nice To Haves

Familiarity with CCTV, RFID, card access, or other Safe & Secure technology.
Previous experience supporting an OSHA or safety team program.
Experience with crisis prevention or response plans.

Responsibilities

Provide service-first support and represent Carvana at the gate for associates, vendors, and visitors.
Communicate clearly, remain calm, listen actively, and build productive relationships.
Use the Unified Security Platform to monitor live cameras, review footage, and investigate intrusion alerts.
De-escalate conflicts and work constructively with partners.
Use the Safe & Secure App and RFID technology to enforce ingress and egress procedures.
Manage and document vehicle movement through Inspection Center entrance and exit gates.
Respond to emergencies using established protocols and apply first aid, CPR, and AED training when needed.
Help maintain site operations in all weather, including snow removal and heat-safety protocols.
Identify environmental hazards, conduct safety audits, and reinforce safe practices.
Scan vehicles using mobile rover technology and manual handheld scanners to support accurate inventory tracking.
Walk to restricted or hard-to-access areas of the lot as needed.
Research vehicle locations and provide detailed reports to leadership.
Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
