About The Position

The Security Associate is a boots-on-the-ground member of Carvana’s Safe & Secure team, protecting associates, customers, and vehicles at a Carvana location. The role combines gate security, camera monitoring, vehicle tracking, safety audits, emergency response, and hands-on site upkeep in changing weather conditions. The associate works with Inspection Center and Logistics teams, maintains accurate records, and provides operational information to Safe & Secure leadership. This hourly position reports to a Safe & Secure Functional Lead or Manager.

The listed schedule is Friday through Tuesday, 4:00 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.; open availability is highly preferred. The facility operates 24/7, and gates must be staffed at all times. The position is designated safety-sensitive and requires regular, predictable attendance.

Requirements

• 1–2 years of experience in a customer service environment.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Sound decision-making in a complex, fast-moving environment.
• Ability to build strong working relationships and connect with people quickly.
• Ability to organize, plan, and execute multiple tasks in a fast-paced setting.
• Ability to handle conflict in a positive, productive way.
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Ability to lift up to 60 pounds independently and carry and transport up to 60 pounds up to 20 feet.
• Ability to stand for extended periods and frequently stretch, reach, walk, stoop, push, and pull.
• Excellent visual acuity and manual dexterity.
• Ability to use required safety equipment and adhere to regular, predictable attendance.

Nice To Haves

• Familiarity with CCTV, RFID, card access, or other Safe & Secure technology.
• Previous experience supporting an OSHA or safety team program.
• Experience with crisis prevention and/or response plans.

Responsibilities

• Provide service-first interactions and represent Carvana at the gate to associates, vendors, and visitors.
• Communicate clearly and calmly, listen actively, and build working relationships with people on site.
• Use the Unified Security Platform to monitor live cameras, review footage, and investigate intrusion alerts.
• Operate the gate using the Safe & Secure App and RFID technology, and enforce ingress and egress procedures.
• Manage and document vehicle movement through Inspection Center entrance and exit gates.
• Respond to emergencies using established protocols and provide first aid, CPR, and AED assistance when needed.
• Maintain site operations in different weather conditions, including snow removal and summer heat-safety protocols.
• Identify environmental hazards, conduct safety audits, and reinforce safe practices.
• Scan vehicles using mobile rover technology and handheld devices to support inventory control and operational flow.
• Walk the lot, including restricted or hard-to-access areas.
• Research vehicle locations and provide accurate, detailed reports to leadership.
• De-escalate conflict and work effectively with partners and colleagues.
