About The Position

The Security Assistant Manager supports the leadership and daily operations of the Security Department, ensuring a safe and secure environment for patients, staff, visitors, and hospital property. This role assists in supervising security personnel, maintaining regulatory compliance, coordinating emergency preparedness efforts, and promoting continuous improvement in security operations in alignment with Good Shepherd Health Care System’s mission and standards.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid State issued a Driver’s License.
  • Unarmed Guard and Supervisory Manager certification from the Oregon Department of Public Safety and Security (DPSST) required or shall be obtained upon hire.
  • Current CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) certification required.
  • Current MOAB (Management of Aggressive Behavior) or equivalent de-escalation/restraint certification required upon hire.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in security operations, preferably in a healthcare or complex institutional setting.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to direct, motivate, and mentor a team of security officers.
  • Strong organizational and scheduling abilities.
  • Proficiency with computer systems, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for reporting, clear instruction, and professional interaction with diverse populations.
  • Strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills, with the ability to remain calm and effective in high-pressure, potentially confrontational, or emergency situations.
  • Exceptional observation, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with limited supervision and exercise sound judgment in complex scenarios.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive information (e.g., Protected Health Information, security protocols).
  • Strong understanding of security best practices, emergency response procedures, and relevant regulations.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, Security Management, or a related field.
  • Previous experience in security operations, criminal justice law enforcement or related field preferred.
  • Proven experience in a lead or supervisory role within a security team highly preferred.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) communication skills preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct supervision to the Security Officer Lead and Security Officer team, ensuring adherence to departmental policies, procedures, and safety standards.
  • Oversee and approve Security Officer schedules, ensuring adequate staffing levels and operational efficiency across all shifts.
  • Act as a point of contact for Security Officers and Leads, providing support and direction for incidents and routine operations.
  • Ensure continuous security coverage by coordinating staffing resources and leadership support as needed.
  • Assist the Facilities Manager in developing and implementing quality assurance programs and departmental objectives.
  • Collaborate with the Facilities Manager in strategic planning, policy development, and departmental goal setting.
  • Support the training and professional development of the Security Officer team.
  • Oversee departmental training compliance, certifications, and performance evaluations for security personnel.
  • Participate in departmental meetings and communicate relevant information to the team.
  • Represent the Security Department in hospital committees, safety meetings, and interdisciplinary initiatives.
  • Patrol hospital buildings, grounds, and premises regularly to deter and detect fire hazards, theft, vandalism, unauthorized entry, and other security breaches.
  • Monitor the conduct of visitors and personnel, confronting and questioning unauthorized individuals as necessary.
  • Identify and report safety hazards, fire risks, and security violations promptly, taking corrective action when appropriate.
  • Respond effectively to inquiries for advice or assistance from hospital personnel, patients, students, and visitors, providing guidance and support.
  • Provide physical restraint of psychiatric patients safely and appropriately as needed, following established protocols and training.
  • Lead and participate in security investigations, gather evidence, and ensure accurate and timely documentation.
  • Review and analyze incident reports for trends, recommending corrective or preventive measures.
  • Prepare detailed incident reports and other essential documentation pertinent to security activities.
  • Secure and/or unlock offices, facilities, and designated areas according to schedule or request.
  • Secure patient valuables and lost-and-found articles, maintaining precise logs of all items received and released.
  • Control parking and traffic flow on hospital premises, enforcing parking regulations to ensure smooth operations and safety.
  • Assist with the care and maintenance of departmental equipment and supplies.
  • Assist in budget monitoring, equipment procurement, and resource allocation for the department.
  • Maintain accurate departmental records, reports, and files as required.
  • Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, literature review, in-service meetings, and workshops, ensuring all applicable licenses are obtained and maintained.
  • The employee supports the hospital mission, vision, values, policies, and procedures.
  • Participates in required education for DNV programs as applicable to position (reference program education curriculum).
  • Assist in the coordination and execution of emergency preparedness drills and hospital-wide response initiatives.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
