Under directive supervision, the Section Operator coordinates the operation of Section facilities which may affect the electric and gas transmission and distribution systems. This role is responsible for coordinating the outage of lines and equipment for testing, maintenance, and repairs to ensure service continuity in cooperation with Area and District operating personnel. The operator issues switching orders for de-energizing, grounding, tagging, and re-energizing transmission, sub-transmission, distribution, substation, and generating plant facilities, ensuring strict adherence to operating instructions and standard procedures for gas operations. The position involves initial analysis of trouble within the section, initiating actions to minimize interruptions, and operating/monitoring supervisory controlled electric substations and gas pressure systems. The Section Operator also maintains logs of operations, updates system diagram boards, receives trouble calls during off-duty hours for customer service and switchboard operators, and dispatches crews for minor troubles. They are expected to recognize unusual conditions and inform responsible personnel, and perform other related or less skilled work as required.
