About The Position

This position is responsible for clerical tasks, systems and procedures related to programs and operations administration in accordance with Management & Training Corporation (MTC) and the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) directives. MTC is proud to operate the East Texas Treatment Facility in Henderson, TX, where our staff provide quality services in a safe, secure, and supportive environment. Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited senior high school or equivalent or GED.
  • Two (2) years of full-time, wage-earning clerical or secretarial experience or related experience and computer proficiency required.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management.
  • Must complete Correctional Awareness Training (CAT) prior to Inmate contact.
  • Must successfully complete annual in-service training requirements and pass an annual background check, both of which must be approved by TDCJ.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s degree in business administration, secretarial science or related field preferred.
  • Thirty semester hours from a college or university accredited by an organization recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) may be substituted for each year of experience on a year-for-year basis for a maximum substitution of two years.

Responsibilities

  • Operate computer equipment with various office software; assist department managers and assistant warden as required.
  • Perform clerical duties including typing, data entry, prepare and distribute reports as directed, file, and responding to inquiries.
  • Make adjustments necessary to ensure schedules are met.
  • Perform duties including correspondence, form letters, accountability forms, status reports and other required forms in a timely manner.
  • Maintain files on department records, cards, forms and correspondence sent, received and/or requiring further action.
  • Proofread records or forms; copy needed information from one record to another as required.
  • File records in Inmate’s official record folder.
  • Maintain, update and file all terminated Inmate records in accordance with directives.
  • Promote the development of positive social skills through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed; provide regular feedback to staff regarding social skills procedures and intervention techniques.
  • Maintain accountability of Inmates and property; adhere to safety practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned within his/her capabilities as determined by management.
