About The Position

The Virginia State Police (VSP) is seeking to hire a Secretary Senior in our Division No. 5, Area No. 46 Office located in Hampton, Virginia. The job duties for this position include but are not limited to: Serving as office manager and administrative assistant to the Area First Sergeant. Composing and typing routine and confidential reports and correspondence for the Area First Sergeant, Sergeants, and Troopers. Providing information in compliance with Department policy by telephone or in person. Managing files. Entering data into various computer programs. Processing incoming and outgoing mail.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of general office and administrative practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of basic mathematics.
  • Knowledge of standard English grammar, spelling, punctuation and usage.
  • Skill in keyboarding.
  • Skill in using computers and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Skill in using office equipment.
  • Ability to manage and organize general office operations.
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems.
  • Ability to expedite workflow and daily office functions.
  • Ability to interpret, apply, retain, and recall policies, procedures, and written instructions.
  • Ability to compose, prepare, and track correspondence, reports and other documents.
  • Ability to complete forms.
  • Ability to collect and assemble information.
  • Ability to operate standard automated office equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, orally and in writing with the public and other agencies.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Significant secretarial experience.
  • Prior experience in office operations and customer service.
  • Must be Qualified to Serve as a Notary Public.
  • Must be eligible to become Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN) certified which requires either United States citizenship or lawful permanent resident of the United States and eligible for naturalization.
  • Graduation from high school or equivalent.
