About The Position

This role involves interviewing clients, assessing their needs, collecting data, and developing action plans. The caseworker will work with clients involved in social services, mental health, and crisis situations. A key aspect of the role is to work collaboratively with Corps Officers to encourage client participation in The Salvation Army's holistic program and to develop new programs to meet identified community needs, such as those for senior citizens, literacy, and support groups. The position requires meticulous record-keeping, adherence to Salvation Army policies on confidentiality, and active participation in various meetings and community outreach efforts. Additionally, the caseworker will coordinate seasonal projects and assist clients in resolving crises through various means, including financial budgeting and referrals.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft computer applications.

  • Good time management skills.
  • Valid PA driver’s license.
  • Respect of cultural differences, levels of education, physical functioning, and crisis situations in a non-judgmental manner.
  • Ability to lift food boxes.
  • All three PA Clearances required upon employment and thereafter upon renewal date: PA Child Abuse History Clearance, Request for Criminal Record, and Fingerprint based Federal Criminal History Report.
  • PA Mandated and Permissive Reporting and The Salvation Army's KeepSAfe training required.
  • 2 to 5 years of experience in social work or related field.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct all aspects of The Salvation Army Social Services Ministry.
  • Work as a team with Corps Officers to encourage clients to participate in the holistic program of The Salvation Army.
  • Develop programs to meet community needs, such as programming for Sr. Citizens, organizing networking among Community Social Service Agencies, classes in literacy for adults and children, and other support/education groups.
  • Process forms, record, and maintain client files according to Salvation Army standards.
  • Attend Social Services Department Meetings, Employee Meetings, and service provider agency meetings.
  • Conduct presentations about The Salvation Army Social Services to the public.
  • Network with service provider agencies to avoid duplication of services.
  • Research community organizations and businesses for potential Social Services partnerships and volunteers.
  • Create and maintain partnerships with community organizations and businesses.
  • Research community resources to identify funding sources.
  • Coordinate and implement seasonal projects (e.g., Dollar Energy, Bundle-Up, Thanksgiving assistance, Christmas assistance, Camp Allegheny, Adopt-a-Family).
  • Interview clients and assist in empowering them to resolve crises.
  • Ensure strict adherence to Salvation Army policies on confidentiality, release of information, and record retention/destruction.
  • Handle client files according to policy, especially if subpoenaed.
  • Delegate tasks such as processing forms, maintaining client files, ordering food, preparing food bank reports, stocking food pantry, packing/distributing food bags, and assigning volunteers to tasks in the Food Pantry, when appropriate.
  • Maintain weekly, monthly, and other statistical reports.
