This position involves teaching secondary special education students at the 10-12th grade levels. The teacher will be responsible for creating and maintaining healthy relationships with students, writing and implementing Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), and demonstrating an understanding of the continuum of skills needed for community and independent living. The role requires flexibility, high motivation, and enthusiasm when working with high school learners. The teacher will also be expected to understand and apply the elements of a Professional Learning Community (PLC) and the Waukee Framework for Meeting the Needs of All Students, which includes differentiating instruction and meeting the needs of diverse learners and special populations. Experience with various teaching methods such as co-teaching, collaboration, whole/small group, and individualized instruction is expected. A commitment to ongoing professional growth and development, adherence to Iowa Professional Development Standards and Iowa Teaching Standards, and strong oral and written communication skills are essential. The teacher will also serve as a WHS student advisor, maintain accurate grades, provide feedback on student work, and participate in secondary-level professional development.
