About The Position

Responsible for creating a positive and engaging learning environment that promotes student growth, critical thinking, and academic achievement around social studies. Plan and deliver instruction aligned with state standards, assess student progress, maintain effective classroom management, and foster meaningful relationships with students, staff, parents, and the community. Courses may include history, government, economics, geography, civics, or other related social studies subjects at the middle and/or high school level.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Studies, History, Political Science, or a related field required.
  • Valid Michigan teaching certificate with appropriate secondary social studies endorsement(s) required.
  • Knowledge of state standards, curriculum development, and assessment practices.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous teaching or student teaching experience at the secondary level preferred.
  • CPR/First Aid certification preferred, or willingness to obtain if required by the district.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging lessons aligned with state standards and district curriculum.
  • Teach secondary social studies courses including, but not limited to, history, government, civics, geography, and economics.
  • Create a positive, safe, and inclusive classroom environment conducive to learning.
  • Assess and monitor student progress through a variety of instructional and assessment strategies.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of attendance, grades, and student performance.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse academic, social, and emotional needs of students.
  • Utilize technology and instructional resources to enhance student learning and engagement.
  • Establish and maintain effective classroom management procedures and expectations.
  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress and concerns.
  • Collaborate with administration, counselors, special education staff, and colleagues to support student success.
  • Participate in staff meetings, professional development activities, and district trainings.
  • Supervise students in classrooms, hallways, extracurricular activities, and other assigned duties.
  • Comply with all district policies, procedures, and state/federal educational requirements.
  • Encourage critical thinking, civic responsibility, and respectful discussion of diverse perspectives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the building principal or administration.
  • Establish and enforce classroom management procedures consistent with district, PBIS and MTSS initiatives.
