About The Position

The Secondary Mathematics Teacher is responsible for providing high-quality mathematics instruction to students in grades 6-12 while fostering a safe, engaging, and inclusive learning environment. The teacher will develop and implement standards-based lessons aligned with the Michigan Academic Standards, promote critical thinking, problem-solving, and mathematical reasoning, and support student growth academically, socially, and emotionally. The successful candidate will collaborate with colleagues, parents, and administrators to ensure student success and contribute positively to the school community.

Requirements

  • Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with appropriate Mathematics endorsement(s) for the assigned grade levels (such as EX or BX, as applicable).
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Michigan Academic Standards for Mathematics and evidence-based instructional practices.
  • Ability to effectively integrate instructional technology into mathematics instruction.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to establish positive relationships with students, staff, parents, and community members.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or a related field.
  • Experience teaching secondary mathematics in a public school setting.
  • Experience using data-driven instruction, intervention strategies, and differentiated instruction.
  • Familiarity with Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), Response to Intervention (RtI), and Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS).

Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging mathematics lessons aligned with the Michigan Academic Standards and district curriculum.
  • Utilize a variety of instructional strategies, technology tools, and hands-on learning experiences to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
  • Develop and implement assessments to monitor student progress and adjust instruction based on data.
  • Differentiate instruction to accommodate varying learning styles, abilities, and educational needs.
  • Foster mathematical reasoning, critical thinking, problem-solving, and real-world application of mathematical concepts.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date lesson plans and instructional records.
  • Establish and maintain a positive, respectful, and productive classroom environment.
  • Implement effective classroom management practices that encourage student engagement, responsibility, and academic success.
  • Enforce district policies, student handbook expectations, and classroom procedures.
  • Supervise students in classrooms and other assigned settings.
  • Assess student learning through formative and summative assessments.
  • Maintain accurate student attendance, grades, and academic records.
  • Provide timely feedback to students and parents regarding academic progress.
  • Communicate regularly with parents, guardians, counselors, and staff regarding student achievement and concerns.
  • Participate in parent-teacher conferences, student support meetings, and Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings, as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, administrators, and support staff to improve student achievement.
  • Participate in professional development activities and maintain required certifications.
  • Attend faculty meetings, professional learning communities (PLCs), and district training sessions.
  • Support school improvement initiatives and district goals.
  • Serve on committees and participate in extracurricular activities as assigned.
  • Maintain a safe, orderly, and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Follow all district, state, and federal regulations regarding student safety, confidentiality, and educational practices.
  • Comply with all Michigan Department of Education requirements and district policies.
