About The Position

Monument Academy is seeking a dedicated Secondary History Teacher for the 6th grade for the 2026-2027 school year. The school is a free public charter school established in 1996, committed to providing a challenging and content-rich education with a traditional approach to classical education. Requirements

  • BA, BS degree
  • 24 college hours in subject area
  • Meets NCLB (No Child Left Behind) standards for Highly Qualified Teaching Status
  • Experience working with children in an educational setting
  • Thorough understanding of pedagogy and the best practices of education.
  • Desire to teach middle school-aged children and ability to adapt to their developmental status.
  • Ability to design lessons that teach curriculum in an engaging manner, applying various teaching methods such as lectures, discussions, demonstrations, and individual or collaborative projects and research.
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills to manage and control the classroom.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a proven ability to maintain professionalism and tact in high-stress situations.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Creative analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

Responsibilities

  • Implement school performance standards and character traits through all aspects of instruction.
  • Create and maintain a classroom that is safe, nurturing, and productive, in which students are encouraged to develop to their full potential.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly classroom.
  • Elementary Bulletin boards should be changed monthly to reflect current units of study.
  • Collaborate with other teachers on the educational team on curriculum and student needs.
  • Assist team with curriculum development and implementation.
  • Administer a wide variety of student assessments.
  • Collect data for assessment and monitoring purposes.
  • Communicate with parents and other team members about student progress and develop plans for further instruction.
  • Maintain mid-quarter and quarterly progress reports on students.
  • Share areas of expertise with other teachers on the team.
  • Attend pre-employment training and ongoing professional development as required.
  • Attend meetings to stay current with school procedures, technology, and trends in education.
  • Attend all school-related activities and meetings as requested by Administration.
  • Utilize school software system for posting grades on a weekly basis.
  • Assist with duties when needed, including but not limited to recess, lunch and carpool.
  • Plans and develops an engaging, age-appropriate course of study in the classroom, adhering to educational best practices and Monument Academy philosophy, curriculum standards, framework guidelines, and Board of Directors policies, proclamations, and resolutions.
  • Designs and presents individual lesson plans in one or more academic subjects using a variety of teaching techniques that appeal to various learning styles and methods.
  • Prepares materials for lessons, assignments, and tests; evaluates, corrects, and grades student performance.
  • Creates a structured classroom environment, provides clear expectations, and establishes a conducive learning culture.
  • Proactively monitors student engagement.
  • Discusses academic difficulties or behavioral problems with students as they arise.
  • Communicates all progress and concerns with tact and professionalism to parents and, as appropriate, other faculty, staff, and/or principal.
  • Builds and maintains positive relationships with parents.
  • Enforces safety and security standards for students, staff, and visitors.
  • Contributes to required documentation and data for individual student files, attendance and incident reports, and other necessary records.
  • Monitors halls, recess, and lunchrooms with other faculty and staff.
  • Maintains knowledge of research, developments, and best practices in designated area of education.
  • Performs related tasks such as sponsoring student activities or organizations.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Supervises the behavior of all students in the classroom, throughout school grounds, and on educational trips.
