About The Position

The Secondary History Teacher is responsible for providing engaging, standards-based instruction that promotes critical thinking, historical inquiry, and civic responsibility. The teacher will create a positive learning environment that supports academic achievement while preparing students to become informed, responsible citizens. The teacher will collaborate with colleagues, families, and school staff to ensure student success.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in History, Social Studies Education, or a related field
  • Valid North Carolina teaching license in Social Studies (or eligibility to obtain licensure)
  • Knowledge of the North Carolina Standard Course of Study for Social Studies
  • Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues
  • Commitment to continuous professional growth and student achievement

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging lessons aligned with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study
  • Utilize a variety of instructional strategies to meet the diverse learning needs of students
  • Integrate technology and primary source materials to enhance student learning
  • Assess student progress using formative and summative assessments and adjust instruction accordingly
  • Foster a classroom environment that promotes respect, collaboration, and academic excellence
  • Encourage critical thinking, historical analysis, and effective communication skills
  • Differentiate instruction to support students with diverse learning needs
  • Monitor student progress and provide timely feedback to students and families
  • Establish and maintain effective classroom procedures and expectations
  • Promote positive student behavior through consistent classroom management practices
  • Ensure a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment
  • Collaborate with administrators, counselors, teachers, and support staff to promote student success
  • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress
  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional learning communities, and required professional development
  • Maintain accurate student records, grades, and attendance in accordance with district policies
  • Support school initiatives and participate in school-wide activities as appropriate
  • Serve on committees or assist with extracurricular activities when assigned
  • Uphold district policies and maintain professional and ethical standards
