About The Position

The Secondary English as a Second Language Teacher will plan, organize, and provide instruction in English that meets state and federal standards. The role involves developing and delivering lesson plans, addressing all aspects of communication (reading, writing, speaking, listening), and administering assessments to evaluate student progress in language acquisition and academic learning targets. The teacher will create a nurturing and supportive learning environment, adapt curriculum for individual and group needs, and establish standards of student behavior. This position requires managing allotted learning time effectively, overseeing assigned out-of-classroom activities, maintaining student confidentiality, and demonstrating professional behavior and cooperation with staff. Regular, timely, and predictable attendance is essential.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree
• Must meet all of the following requirements: NS endorsement on teaching certificate

Nice To Haves

• Preferential consideration will be given to candidates with a K-12 certificate
• Preferential consideration will be given to candidates with previous experience as a teacher of language development or language arts
• Preferential consideration will be given to applicants who also have a certification as a Spanish World Languages teacher (FF endorsement)

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, and provide instruction in English that meet state and federal standards
• Provide instruction that is consistent and coordinated with the district’s/school’s instructional program
• Develop and deliver lesson plans that utilize a broad range of appropriate teaching techniques and strategies
• Address all aspects of communication through appropriate instruction that develops each student’s ability to read, write, speak, and listen
• Administer academic and language assessments for the purpose of evaluating student progress
• Maintain complete and accurate records of student progress and evidence of growth and progress
• Provide a nurturing and supportive learning environment that encourages student responsibility and incorporates challenging instructional strategies
• Adapt curriculum to provide individual, small group, and/or remedial instruction
• Establish and maintain standards of student behavior required to run an orderly and productive classroom environment
• Employ a variety of instructional techniques and strategies to meet different aptitudes and interests of students
• Manage allotted learning time to maximize student achievement
• Oversee assigned out-of-classroom activities during the school day, as needed
• Maintain confidentiality of student information (FERPA/HIPPA)
• Carry out responsibilities with little or no prompting
• Demonstrate professional behavior in manner and appearance
• Work cooperatively with building staff
• Regular, timely and predictable attendance
• Be responsible to the designated supervisor(s) for assignments and directions
