About The Position

The Ankeny Community School District (CSD) is seeking a dynamic, English-certified educator for the position of Secondary Academic Interventionist Teacher at Ankeny High School. This role is designed to provide support to the instructional process by developing targeted academic interventions, collaborating with other teachers, professional staff, and administrators to address instructional and classroom issues, and responding to parent/guardian inquiries regarding the instructional program and student progress. The ideal candidate fundamentally believes that every student can achieve grade-level proficiency and acts as a champion for at-risk youth, influencing their academic and social growth through direct instruction, small-group tutoring, or by adapting to shifting campus needs.

Requirements

  • Minimum of three years of successful teaching experience.
  • Demonstrated excellence in communication, both oral and written.
  • Positive work history, with a high attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated success in maintaining effective relationships with employees, colleagues, and business/community partners.
  • Strategic and critical thinker.
  • Proficient technology skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in a related field.
  • Certification by the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners.

Responsibilities

  • Accommodate course content, in collaboration with general education teachers, for the purpose of providing students with targeted, skill-based instruction that addresses individualized learning needs.
  • Administer developmental testing programs, subject-specific assessments, etc., for the purpose of assessing student competency levels and/or developing individual learning plans.
  • Advise parents and/or legal guardians of students' progress for the purposes of communicating expectations, students' achievements, and developing methods for improvement and/or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment.
  • Assess student progress towards objectives, expectations, and/or skill development for the purposes of providing feedback to students, parents, and administration.
  • Collaborate with instructional staff, other school personnel, parents, and a variety of community resources for the purpose of improving quality of student outcomes and achieving established classroom objectives in support of school improvement plans.
  • Collaborate with all stakeholders (e.g., students, parents, colleagues, administration, etc.) for the purpose of establishing and maintaining leadership and positive relationships while focusing on high expectations and continuous improvement for student learning.
  • Demonstrate methods required to perform classroom and/or subject-specific assignments for the purpose of providing an effective program that addresses individual student requirements.
  • Manage student behavior for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment.
  • Monitor students in a variety of educational environments for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Respond to inquiries from a variety of sources (e.g., other teachers, parents, administrators, etc.) for the purpose of resolving issues, providing information and/or direction.
  • Support classroom teachers for the purpose of assisting them in the implementation of established curriculum and/or individual student plans.
  • Participate in a variety of meetings, including IEPs and 504 meetings, for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
  • Prepare a variety of written materials (e.g., adaptive materials, grades, attendance, anecdotal records, etc.) for the purpose of documenting student progress and meeting mandated requirements.
  • Report incidents (e.g., fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining personal safety of students, providing a positive learning environment, and adhering to state and federal laws and school board policies.
  • Participate in a variety of meetings and professional development opportunities for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information to perform essential functions.
  • Collaborate with internal and external personnel (e.g., other administrators, district staff, public agencies, community members, etc.) for implementing and/or maintaining services and programs.
  • Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned.
  • Demonstrate initiative and the ability to work without close supervision.
  • Demonstrate integrity and maintain confidentiality.
  • Work well with others, maintaining positive and effective communication with district personnel and works well with others on jobs that require more than one person.
  • Is respectful and appropriately interacts with staff, students, and visitors.
  • Uphold and adhere to safety rules and policies of the Ankeny Community School District safety program.
  • Support the goals and objectives of the school district and follow all district policies.
  • Demonstrate the ability to attend work on a regular and routine basis to avoid disruption to District operations.
  • Perform all duties in a safe manner to avoid injury to oneself and/or others.
  • Respond to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing appropriate personnel for resolution.
  • Perform other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
