SEASONAL Yard Coordinator
About The Position
The Seasonal Yard Coordinator role is a limited-time position focused on executing daily trailer movements within Target’s Distribution Center Yards. This role emphasizes fostering a "safety first" culture by ensuring carriers adhere to safety expectations and maintaining a safe work environment for all drivers. The coordinator will update the yard management system, ensure trailers are admitted according to best practices, and communicate effectively with DC executives regarding trailer needs and progress. Responsibilities also include monitoring trailer releases for scheduled deliveries, ensuring accountability for Target equipment, conducting trailer inventories, and coordinating with First Mile Transportation to manage trailer pools and freight flow. This position is not available to current team members and has a potential end date of January 2027 or sooner.
Requirements
- High School degree or equivalent
- Must be at least 18 years of age or older
- Demonstrated ability to multi-task
- Experience working in a high volume, high activity environment
Nice To Haves
- Direct experience within a distribution center truck yard, or traffic management preferred.
- Strong oral and written communication skills
Responsibilities
- Execution of daily trailer movement within Target’s Distribution Center Yards.
- Foster a “safety first” culture through awareness, training and accountability.
- Ensure carriers are following all safety expectations and maintaining a safe work environment for all drivers.
- Identify any unsafe acts and work to immediately address them.
- Ensure the yard management system is updated to reflect the current status of all trailers in the yard.
- Ensure all trailers are admitted according to the current best practices.
- Communicate effectively with all DC executives regarding trailer needs, movement and progress.
- Monitor trailer releases to ensure trailers meet scheduled deliveries to stores.
- Be responsible for the accountability of all Target equipment.
- Conduct trailer inventories and ensure that the equipment is available for preventive maintenance checks.
- Work cross functionally with First Mile Transportation to monitor trailer pools and freight flow volatility, ensuring our yards remain within threshold and safe.
