The City of Farmington is seeking two Seasonal Wildland Firefighters to join the Farmington Fire Department. This full-time seasonal position involves performing firefighting activities, including driving fire apparatus, operating pumps and equipment, laying hose, and engaging in fire combat, containment, and extinguishment. The role operates under the general supervision of the Wildland Chief, Fire Engine Boss, and/or Shift Coordinator. Responsibilities include serving on a Wildland Fire Engine, working independently and as part of a crew, and performing engine operational duties for wildland and prescribed fire suppression. This role also involves constructing fire lines with hand and power tools, maintaining fire equipment and apparatus, performing minor repairs, conducting fuel reduction activities, and maintaining fire hydrants. The position requires excellent customer service skills to foster effective working relationships. Successful candidates must maintain NWCG Wildland Red Card Certification and attend ongoing training in firefighting, EMS, hazardous materials, and wildland firefighting. Duties also include receiving and relaying fire calls, operating communication equipment, presenting community safety programs, and operating a motor vehicle for departmental business. Extended deployments outside the region are a possibility, and attendance at work is an essential function.
