About The Position

A Wildland Firefighter in the Insurance Division participates in activities including fire prevention and mitigation, pre-fire assessment, and fire suppression. This role reports to and provides assistance to a Wildland Fire Captain, or directly to the Battalion Chief in their absence. The firefighter works in the day-to-day operation and maintenance of a fire station or other site, and the apparatus and personnel assigned. They may act as a Driver/Operator or Wildland Fire Captain as needed. Responsibilities include conducting wildfire safety checks, pre-fire planning inspections, participating in drills and training programs, and providing information to the public. Members may be assigned to incidents for 14-21 days and dispatched to fires in the western United States. Work hours are typically 8-hour days but can vary. The role requires operating company vehicles and tools/equipment safely.

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED
• Current CPR/AED certification
• Valid driver license with good driving record
• Able to work any shift assigned, including nights, holidays, and weekends.
• Ability to pass a work capacity test conducted during the initial onboarding process.
• Proficient in the use of a computer, Ipad, etc., including systems such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other platforms for routine business use.
• Knowledgeable in current wildland firefighting practices and procedures, particularly in the wildland urban interface (WUI) environment.
• Minimum required NWCG/FEMA courses: L-180, S-130, S-131, S-190, IS-100, IS-700, IS-800
• Minimum Capstone Certification (within 60 days of hire): Capstone – Insurance Firefighter Position Task Book (PTB)
• Applicants will be required to undergo a background investigation prior to being considered for employment.

Nice To Haves

• Prior wildland firefighting experience (USFS, BLM, Cal Fire, etc.) desired.
• Advanced first aid and/or EMT desired.

Responsibilities
