About The Position

Ferguson Township is seeking a Seasonal Public Works Laborer to support the Public Works Department in maintaining Township infrastructure and public spaces. This position involves a wide variety of manual labor and semi-skilled trade work to ensure a well-maintained community. Ferguson Township, located in Centre County, Pennsylvania, is home to approximately 19,000 residents and is known for its blend of rural charm and urban convenience, strong community, safe neighborhoods, and commitment to farmland conservation. Residents benefit from top-rated public schools, numerous parks, recreational amenities, and a bike-friendly environment, along with proximity to downtown State College and Penn State University. As a Seasonal Public Works Laborer, you will be crucial in maintaining and enhancing the Township's roads, parks, and public spaces. Your work will include mowing, landscaping, assisting with road repairs, and infrastructure maintenance, directly impacting the community. You will work with a dedicated Public Works team, utilizing various tools and equipment to keep Ferguson Township safe, clean, and welcoming. This role offers meaningful, hands-on work outdoors in a team-oriented environment, with diverse daily tasks.

Requirements

  • Minimum age: 16
  • Valid Pennsylvania Driver's License (Class C) required.
  • Successful candidate pending a pre-employment physical, drug screening, and background check.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum age: 18+ preferred
  • CDL and equipment operation experience preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Mow grass and control roadside vegetation using equipment such as zero-turn mowers, push mowers, string trimmers, and leaf blowers.
  • Maintain landscaped areas including mulch beds, trees, and plantings through weeding, mulching, and watering.
  • Perform general road maintenance tasks including pothole patching, crack sealing, and culvert cleaning.
  • Assist with traffic control setup and safety procedures during roadwork operations.
  • Operate Township vehicles such as pickup trucks.
  • Utilize hand tools and power tools including shovels, rakes, saws, drills, and other equipment as needed.
  • Assist with maintenance and basic servicing of vehicles, tools, and equipment.
  • Support other Public Works operations and special projects as assigned.
