About The Position

As a seasonal, full-time Park Ranger Assistant, you will assist year-round State Park staff with the protection, maintenance, and operation of park lands, resources, facilities, and equipment. In this position, you will typically handle basic tasks in one area, like janitorial work, landscaping, interpretation, or visitor services, though some positions may require tasks in multiple areas. Basic skills in building trades, such as carpentry, plumbing, and electrical work, may be needed. Specialized skills in park maintenance could also be required. You may also guide volunteers or other staff in completing specific tasks. We recruit for seasonal positions each year that generally work June through September; however, the duration may vary depending on the park's specific needs. Limited housing is available for a fee at this location and is first come, first-served.

Requirements

  • Six (6) months of experience (paid or unpaid) performing public contact or customer service duties (e.g. Teacher, Customer Service Representative, Salesperson, Receptionist, etc.) and/or maintenance experience (construction trades, landscaping, custodial, etc.); OR Six (6) months of college in any discipline (24 quarter hours/16 semester hours)
  • Criminal record and driving record check must be completed that meets OPRD Criteria at the time of hire, and throughout employment.
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working as part of a team and using common courtesy while communicating with others, including during emergency or emotionally charged situations.
  • Experience handling a variety of payment methods, making change for cash transactions and preparing simple revenue reconciliation reports.
  • Experience performing basic plumbing, carpentry, painting and grounds-keeping tasks.
  • Skilled in the safe use of hand and power tools, and motorized equipment related to facilities maintenance.
  • Experience providing people with rule information and asking for compliance both verbal and written.
  • Experience in providing excellent customer service to a diverse visitor base and promoting a culturally competent work environment.
