This is an unclassified, temporary appointment, not to exceed 1000 hours (Hours may vary based on operational need). The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) oversees building and maintaining the nation's 5th largest interstate system and the 3rd largest number of bridges. We take pride in providing safe and efficient roadways for the people of Ohio and to the people travelling within our great state. The ODOT Mechanic Trainee receives training in the performance of preventative maintenance and service on cars, trucks, and equipment, and assists with performing minor repairs or other related mechanical work. This role involves learning to service ODOT’s Central Hydraulic System, snowplow lighting systems, salt spreading systems, heavy/heaviest equipment, snoopers, vactor jets, and Global Positioning System/Automatic Vehicle Locator (GPS/AVL) systems. Responsibilities also include checking fuel pump readings, maintaining fuel pumps and pumping areas, recording fuel output, receiving fuel deliveries, completing forms, inventorying supplies, ordering, receiving, measuring, and sampling fuel/supplies, operating radios, mowing and trimming lawns, providing emergency service to vehicles, delivering or picking up vehicles, and providing assistance, information, and support to higher-level mechanics and co-workers.
