About The Position

The Mobility Assistance Specialist position provides safe and courteous mobility assistance to passengers requiring wheelchair support, transporting customers to and from destinations throughout the terminal and on/off airplanes. This role supports accessibility and passenger flow within airport operations. Full-time and part-time positions may be available.

Requirements

  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds as part of routine duties and must be capable of assisting with transfers and maneuvering passengers weighing up to 350 pounds.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to interact respectfully with passengers from diverse backgrounds
  • Must be available to work a flexible schedule with overtime when required.
  • Must be able to work effectively with a minimum of supervision or support.
  • Must be fluent in speaking, reading, and writing English.
  • Ability to pass SIDA Badge test, which includes an assessment of knowledge related to airport security protocols, access control procedures, and safety regulations in secure and restricted areas.
  • Ability to obtain an Alaska AOA Badge. To be eligible, applicants must meet the following criteria:
  • Successfully pass an FBI fingerprint-based background check.
  • Complete and pass a TSA Security Threat Assessment (STA).
  • Have no outstanding warrants or be able to provide documentation of their resolution.

Responsibilities

  • Assist and transport passengers that require wheelchair assistance through arrival and check-in processes, to/from assigned gate to their flights, as well as within the terminal and aircraft.
  • Assist wheelchair passengers with their carry-on bags, assisted devices and checked luggage.
  • Operate mobility equipment safely and in accordance with company procedures and airport regulations
  • Greet passengers in a friendly and courteous manner.
  • Provide proactive, empathetic, and professional support, including navigation and wayfinding throughout the terminal
  • Monitor and respond to passengers’ needs, including pace, seating, and comfort, while maintaining privacy and dignity
  • Communicate clearly with passengers and coordinating teams (airlines, concierge, security, and ground transportation) to ensure smooth arrivals, connections, and departures
  • Assist Ramp Service Agents to ensure that wheelchairs, strollers, and gate-checked bags are made available for loading upon departure and delivery to passengers upon arrival.
  • Maintain a positive, injury-free work environment by following proper lifting and maneuvering techniques and using assistive devices as trained
  • Other duties that are pertinent to the department or unit’s success also may be assigned.
