About The Position

This position works under the supervision of the Street Superintendent and the Public Works Director, and at times under the supervision of an Equipment Operator, Truck Driver, Skilled Laborer, or Laborer. The role involves performing various labor tasks to maintain and repair city streets, including mowing grass, loading brush and weeds, picking up litter, painting, building maintenance, and administrative work. The employee will be reviewed for compliance with established procedures during and after task completion.

Requirements

Must be a minimum of 16 years of age.
Requires the ability to understand and act on oral instructions.
Requires the ability to lift, unaided, objects weighing as much as fifty-one pounds.

Responsibilities

Performs various labor tasks required to maintain and repair city streets (i.e., shoveling materials, loading/unloading trucks, and operating handheld power tools)
Cleans street ditches, culverts, sidewalks, and curbs of leaves, garbage, trees, tree limbs, and other debris using shovels, leaf blowers, rakes, and brooms.
Mow grass, cut brush, and trim shrubs.
Cleans equipment and tools used during the workday.
Cleaning bathrooms, removing trash, cleaning offices and vehicles, cleaning windows. Any and all basic custodial duties as directed by the Street Superintendent.
May be asked to perform office duties including typing, filing, etc.
May be asked to perform building maintenance duties.
May be asked to shadow a fleet mechanic.
Promotes an image of professional, courteous service as a representative of the City of Morgantown. Employee encounters occasional contact with other departments and general public.
Performs duties as assigned by Public Works Director or Street Superintendent orally or writing in a timely fashion.
Wears all PPE required and follows all safety policies.
Other duties as assigned.
