The Operations Seasonal Laborer is responsible for performing a variety of semi-skilled and manual labor tasks involved in maintaining parks, facilities, playgrounds, restrooms and other park areas. Tasks may include assisting with painting, light carpentry, plumbing, trash removal and other tasks necessary to maintain Park District facilities and park areas. Duties : Under the direction of a full-time Park Specialist and the Operations & Project Manager, works on a maintenance crew. Performs manual and semi-skilled maintenance tasks including operation of small to heavy equipment. Must be able to safely and competently operate machinery and equipment. Operates District vehicles if in possession of a valid Illinois Drivers' License. Assists with construction projects. Cleans restrooms and checks restrooms to be sure they are supplied with toilet paper. Performs strenuous tasks such as heavy lifting, and other projects as assigned. Performs playground surface maintenance including placement of wood chips and sand, filling holes, shoveling and raking. Assists with the set-up and tear-down for special events. This position works at times indoors but generally outdoors and is exposed to a variety of weather conditions that may include high heat and humidity levels along with rain, snow and cold weather conditions. Performs other duties as assigned. Hours 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM, Monday through Friday. Depending on the needs of the Parks Department, may be asked to work evening and weekend hours. This is a seasonal position that begins in early spring, 2026 and concludes generally in late November depending on weather conditions. We also consider hiring individuals that are only available to work late spring and summer only. Qualifications The ideal candidate will have a High School diploma or equivalent (GED). Must be at least 18 years of age. One year related experience preferred. Prefer an individual with trades experience but not required. Must Have the ability to work cooperatively with other employees. Must be able to lift 50 pounds, pass driving record check and criminal background check. Valid Illinois Drivers’ License required. This job falls in paygrade PT5. The target hiring range for this position is $16.60 per hour depending on qualifications.
