About The Position

Solid Waste is hiring Seasonal - Grounds Maintenance Worker I employees! This seasonal position pays $26.81 per hour with no interview required. Join our Solid Waste team and APPLY now! We're looking for dedicated, team-oriented, and reliable individuals with a passion for customer service to join our seasonal workforce! As part of a crew, you’ll take on a range of responsibilities including routine grounds keeping at Solid Waste facilities, assisting with general upkeep, operating a variety of light equipment, cleaning up illegal dumping sites, and roadside debris removal. Hours of work vary depending on which team you are assigned to. Groundskeeping hours are 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Litter Crew hours are 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday. Crews will be assigned on the first day of work. There is a variety of work to be performed through summer, and early fall. Employment timeframe is between August 1, 2026 and October 31, 2026. This seasonal position pays $26.81 per hour and is typically scheduled for 40 hours per week. You will be assigned to work at one or more of the Solid Waste county locations.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 or older by start date
  • Have WA driver’s license
  • One (1) year experience in construction, maintenance work or commercial gardening, landscaping, or yard care experience
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally via radios with co-workers, leads, and supervisors
  • One (1) year experience in construction and maintenance work OR one (1) year of experience in commercial gardening, landscaping or yard care; OR, any equivalent combination of training and/or experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities
  • Must pass job related tests
  • A valid Washington State Driver's License is required for employment
  • Possession of or ability to obtain a valid First Aid/CPR card within ninety (90) days of employment
  • Possession of or ability to obtain valid Flagger certification within ninety (90) days of employment
  • Knowledge of the equipment material and tools associated with doing routine grounds maintenance work
  • Knowledge of the hazards associated with the work
  • Knowledge of safety rules and regulations
  • Knowledge of basic first aid methods and procedures
  • Knowledge of standard landscaping equipment, procedures, and supplies
  • Ability to operate and maintain a variety of light trucks and maintenance equipment as required by the position
  • Ability to use a variety of hand and small power tools skillfully and safely under a variety of work conditions
  • Ability to perform strenuous physical work
  • Ability to read, understand and follow safety rules and regulations
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with superiors and co-workers
  • Ability to deal courteously and tactfully with the general public
  • Ability to use common landscaping equipment, fuels and cleaning solutions skillfully and safely

  • Flagging
  • Perform routine grounds keeping and unskilled manual labor tasks
  • Assist in general maintenance work
  • Operate a variety of light equipment as directed
  • Perform a variety of outdoor maintenance tasks such as sweeping, raking, picking up trash from grounds and roadside
  • Cleaning plugged outdoor drains
  • Pressure washing buildings, traffic surfaces and equipment
  • Shoveling and spreading mulch, gravel and soils
  • Mow, edge, trim, and water lawns
  • Weed flower beds
  • Trim trees and plants
  • Water and fertilize a variety of flowers, plants, shrubs and trees
  • Operate mowers, gas powered trimmers and blowers, chainsaws, vacuums and a variety of other small power tools
  • Operate a variety of single axle trucks rated to 10,000 lbs GVW and less
  • Perform routine maintenance on assigned equipment by checking fluid levels and lubricating equipment as necessary
  • Pick up and deliver equipment, materials, parts, and supplies as required
  • Paint with non-powered equipment from ground level or non-powered lifting devices under supervision
  • Complete records and reports as necessary
  • Perform a variety of routine cleaning tasks such as cleaning and stocking restrooms, cleaning and waxing floors, and setting up facilities for a variety of meetings and events, clean up after meetings and events, garbage and litter pickup
