About The Position
The City of Aiken Public Services Department is accepting applications for Maintenance Workers in the Solid Waste Division. This role involves following a solid waste route book, addressing and documenting issues, and assisting with the operation of garbage or recycling trucks. The position also includes general maintenance tasks within the department.
Requirements
- Ability to read and write.
- Ability to deal effectively with the public.
- Must have a valid driver's license in good standing.
- Ability to stand for periods of time on the back of a garbage or recycling truck.
- Ability to perform continual stepping on and off the truck.
- Ability to dump garbage or recycle carts into the truck.
Responsibilities
- Follow a solid waste route book, addressing and documenting issues in writing.
- Stand for periods of time on the back of a garbage or recycling truck, involving continual stepping on and off the truck and dumping carts.
- Assist with the weekly cleaning and greasing of the truck.
- Perform all maintenance work within the department, including grounds maintenance, yard debris collection, and janitorial services.
