About The Position

The Department of Environmental Sciences at the University of Toledo, OH is seeking a field technician to support ongoing research at the Plum Island Ecosystems Long-Term Ecological Research site. This role involves conducting field measurements, sampling, and data analysis. The technician will collaborate with staff and graduate students on flux measurements, porewater and soil gas sampling, and vegetation analysis. Responsibilities also include data entry and initial data analysis. This project focuses on understanding the interaction of hydrology and biogeochemistry in coastal marshes, funded by the Simons Foundation and involving multiple institutions. The position is primarily based at the University of Toledo's Main Campus with significant fieldwork at the Plum Island Ecosystems LTER site, limited to a maximum of 1000 hours per calendar year.

Requirements

  • A minimum of two years of college (degree not required) majoring in chemistry, biochemistry, biology, ecology, environmental sciences, or related discipline.
  • Willingness and ability to work outdoors in ambient weather conditions.
  • Willingness and ability to communicate with project team members, collaborators, and administrators participating in the project.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Commitment to a safe and inclusive working environment.
  • Effective communication skills (oral and written).
  • Ability and desire to collaborate with a large multi-institutional collaborative team.
  • Ability to work independently and to make decisions concerning personal and team safety, monitor weather conditions, and other logistical factors.
  • Ability to work closely with students, faculty, and other staff to maintain research efficiency of the project.

Responsibilities
