About The Position

The City of Quinte West is seeking a Seasonal Custodian to be responsible for the cleanliness of Quinte West owned facilities. This role involves room set-up, monitoring, performing and recommending repairs/maintenance, and carrying out security functions to ensure safe, clean, tidy, and well-functioning facilities. Regular evening and weekend shifts are required. The department is responsible for developing and implementing Economic Development, Tourism and Communication strategies for the City, as well as the management of all City facilities, including the day-to-day operations of arenas and marinas. The department also engages in developing and maintaining strategic partnerships.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and team skills.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain level 3 security clearance and Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC).
  • Basic knowledge of the operation of heating systems and other facility equipment.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • WHMIS, First Aid and CPR training.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • A highly developed sense of professionalism, tact and diplomacy.
  • Must demonstrate respect for confidential and sensitive issues.
  • Demonstrated telephone and public relations skills.
  • Demonstrated ethical behaviour and business practices.
  • Proficiently skilled and comfortable with the use of mobile devices and technology to include but not limited to Google Workspace, Dayforce (or other similar software programs) email and internet.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Effective problem solving skills and abilities.
  • A minimum of one (1) year of experience in custodial services in a public facility is required.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and team skills are necessary.

Nice To Haves

  • A valid Class G Driver’s Licence and a safe driving record in good standing, satisfactory to the employer.
  • The ability to communicate in both English and French.
  • Previous municipal experience.

Responsibilities

  • Clean City facilities employing proper methods in accordance with approved standards using proper and adequate equipment, tools and supplies (mopping, sweeping, etc.).
  • Monitor and report as necessary, the attendance and use of the facilities.
  • Monitor operation of facility equipment/fixtures such as boilers, water heaters, mechanical systems etc. and report problems arising.
  • Maintain facility entrances free of snow, ice, litter, etc.
  • Ensure proper disposal of garbage/refuse/recycling in accordance with City By-laws/procedures and policy.
  • Monitor restricted parking and report problems/emergencies.
  • Assist user groups and other approved organizations in the provision of resource support when directed.
  • Complete room set-ups including the lifting of tables, chairs and related office equipment.
  • Respond to any facility emergencies or problems which may occur and complete the appropriate action and reports.
  • Promote good public relations giving the City of Quinte West a positive public image through its facilities and services.
  • Ensure that the facility users comply with municipal policies, provincial codes, acts and legislation related to the facility bookings.
  • Be aware of and follow the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Attend related training and development as required.
  • Respond to evening and weekend emergency callouts in the event of building alarms and emergencies.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to learning and overall professional development.
  • Follow all guidelines for employees and employers as legislated under the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act, other applicable legislation, best practices, City policies and procedures where applicable.
