About The Position

The Undergraduate Admissions (UA) team at The Ohio State University works collaboratively to promote student access, success, and excellence by championing the recruitment, selection, and enrollment of undergraduate students. The Application Reviewer position provides a holistic evaluation for many domestic and international applications for undergraduate admission to The Ohio State University. The role involves reviewing all application materials and making an admissions recommendation based on extensive training. The application review season runs from October to February, and the work can be accomplished remotely. Files are assigned weekly via a secure online review site, and recommendations are submitted electronically. Reviewers are required to enter recommendations weekly, attend monthly trainings and coaching sessions, and stay updated on procedural changes. Confidentiality and security of admissions materials are paramount. This is a seasonal position with an hourly rate compensation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in counseling, human relations, or education.
  • Knowledge of college/university policies and procedures.
  • Candidates must commit to completing the needed files per week and attending all required trainings and meetings.
  • Reviewers will use University issued equipment.
  • Seasonal Application Reviewer candidates must be Ohio residents and live in the state of Ohio while serving in the role.
  • Successful completion of a background check.
  • Must be able to work approximately 14-18 hours per week, with some weeks requiring up to 20 hours and some weeks requiring fewer than 14 hours.
  • File review should primarily occur during normal university business hours.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with recruitment and counseling practices at higher education institutions desired.
  • Recent college admission, high school guidance experience or high school teaching experience preferred.
  • Previous application reviewing experience desired.
  • Reasonable knowledge of student counseling or guidance practices and familiarity with review and evaluation of written material is necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a thorough understanding of Ohio State’s enrollment goals, policies and procedures and make recommendations based on established enrollment guidelines and professional judgment.
  • Holistically review all application materials in a detail-oriented manner.
  • Utilize application training resources to inform the admissions recommendations.
  • Consult with their supervisor when reading more complex applications through email or Microsoft Teams communication and review meetings.
  • Attend all meetings, trainings, and professional development sessions.
  • Enter recommendations for completed reviews into the review site on a weekly basis.
  • Ensure confidentiality and security of the admissions process, files, and university materials.
