About The Position

This role actively supports training and departmental activities, including Continuous Improvement. The technician receives and evaluates returned parts and materials from customers and branch offices to determine repairability based on condition, drawing revisions, and product knowledge. Responsibilities include identifying and inspecting material, potentially performing parts structuring, cost analysis, and pricing repairs. The technician ensures components are cleaned and free from foreign material, and performs the assembly of seals after repairs are approved and components are replaced or reconditioned. With limited supervision, the role involves repairing returned seals and parts, determining necessary repair operations, and ensuring Bill of Materials (BOM)/drawings/repair parts align. The technician will operate simple machinery like drill presses, grinders, polishers, and lapping machines, and verify part specifications using various measuring instruments. Additional duties may include initiating purchase orders, consulting with Engineering or Sales, maintaining records and inventory, working from factory orders, prints, and instructions, assisting newer personnel, troubleshooting lapping machines, and maintaining a clean work environment.

Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent.
Minimum 4 years of mechanical seal equipment experience/or comparable experience within the refining, petrochemical, chemical, power, or upstream markets working on or maintaining equipment and 6 months to 1-year on-the-job training.
Ability to read, write, and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
Ability to effectively present information in one on one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.
Ability to understand and complete instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Responsibilities

Actively supports any training and departmental activities and support Continuous Improvement Activities.
Receives parts and materials returned by customers and branch offices. Evaluates from condition of material, checks current drawing revisions and general product knowledge whether material is repairable or non-repairable.
Identifies and inspects material returned.
May perform parts structuring, checks cost structure, and determines price of repair, ensures assembly is structured correctly, and price repair.
Ensures all components are properly cleaned and free from foreign material per departmental procedures
Perform the assembly of the seal once the repair has been released to the shop and all components have been replaced or reconditioned and marked ready for assembly.
With limited supervision, repairs returned seal and seal parts.
Determines necessary repair operations, ensures BOM (bill of materials) / drawings / repair parts match.
Performs simple operations on drill press (single spindle), tool post grinder, bead blast polisher and lapping machine.
Verifies part specifications with measuring instruments such as micrometer, vernier caliper, dial indicator and optical flats.
May Initiate purchase orders for new jobs if vendors are involved.
Consults with Engineering or Sales departments as necessary.
Maintains necessary records and small inventory of seal parts used for repair orders.
Works from factory work orders, prints, rework orders and verbal instructions.
Assists newer repair personnel as necessary.
Sets up and troubleshoots lapping machines for repair maintenance.
Maintains a clean and neat work environment.
Additional duties as assigned.
