About The Position

The SEA LIFE Education Associate is responsible for delivering memorable guest experiences through educational talks and demonstrations. This role upholds operating standards of safety, service, presentation, and efficiency, while driving positive guest satisfaction. This is a Part Time position.

Requirements

  • Must have flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be comfortable talking to groups of people.
  • Requires excellent skills in guest service.
  • Self-motivated and demonstrated initiative.
  • Has a strong attention to detail.
  • Is a team player and works well with fellow employees.
  • High School diploma required.
  • Intermittent and prolonged standing and walking to move about the aquarium.
  • Ability to keep hands and arms in salt and freshwater for long periods of time while interacting with guests.
  • Close eye work (small figures).
  • Depth perception, distance vision, ability to focus.
  • Hearing requirements - special requirements, able to consistently fulfill communication needs (alarms, phone ringing, conversation, clear acuity within 100 feet).
  • Temperature - Between 16 and 95 degrees.
  • Crawl Space/Cramped Position - Exposed < 1 hour per day.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (e.g. Respiratory Mask, etc.) - Occasionally (1 - 33%).
  • Noise (Loud/Repetitive, < 85 Decibels per OSHA Standard) - Occasionally (1 - 33%).

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in a zoo, aquarium, or informal learning settings.
  • Prior experience in working with children.
  • Animal handling experience.
  • Coursework in science or education preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides outstanding guest service and creates memorable guest experiences.
  • Uses interpretive techniques to educate guests throughout the aquarium.
  • Upholds high SEA LIFE operating standards of safety, service, presentation, and efficiency.
  • Interprets exhibit information to guests of all ages, especially young children.
  • Ensures standard operating procedures are adhered to and followed at all times.
  • Handles crowd control, guest questions, and guest recovery, as well as other operations issues.
  • Learns and interprets proper identification of marine animals and their related ecology and conservation.
  • Observes and reports the conditions of all animals and monitors their safety and wellbeing at the touch pool.
  • Handles animals, including snakes, and follows proper animal handling procedures and protocols.
  • Learns to identify and interpret biofacts and props to children and adults in an Aquarium setting.
  • Speaks in public both in one-on-one settings and to large groups in a show setting.
  • Communicates any facility requirements, safety issues, or staffing issues to Zonal Lead or management.
  • Conducts breaks for fellow employees in a timely manner.
  • Greets and excites guests entering and throughout the Aquarium.
  • Works closely with other departments at SEA LIFE to create a positive work environment.
  • May have additional tasks assigned on occasions.
