About The Position

Amalga is seeking a senior-level SDET to serve as a technical quality partner across the product lifecycle. The role goes beyond UI automation: it involves autonomously defining testing strategies, building automation frameworks from scratch, and validating backend processes, APIs, and data migrations. The SDET will collaborate with Software Engineers, Product Managers, Architects, DevOps, and QA/QE professionals, contributing to discovery, solution design, and release activities to identify risks early and build quality into the product. The position focuses on creating scalable Playwright automation with TypeScript or Python and balancing UI testing with API, integration, component, contract, data, and end-to-end testing. It also includes validating REST services, backend workflows, and database integrity using SQL; integrating tests into CI/CD pipelines; investigating failures with logs, network traces, and telemetry; and participating in architecture discussions. AI-assisted development tools may be used responsibly to support test design, debugging, and analysis.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience in an SDET, Software/Quality Engineer, or Test Automation role.
  • Proficiency in TypeScript/JavaScript or Python, with the ability to design maintainable software rather than only record-and-playback test scripts.
  • Deep, hands-on experience building Playwright frameworks from scratch.
  • Proven experience automating backend processes and validating REST APIs, JSON payloads, and service integrations without launching a browser.
  • Strong understanding of the testing pyramid, including unit, component, API, integration, and end-to-end testing, and when to use each approach.
  • Strong working knowledge of Git, branching strategies, and integrating automated tests into continuous delivery pipelines.
  • Ability to work with ambiguous requirements, independently identify failure scenarios, and constructively influence engineering decisions.

Nice To Haves

  • Proven ability to use code and automation tools to ensure data integrity during system migrations.
  • Ability to structure a scalable project from day one, including fixtures and environment variables.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable automation frameworks using Playwright with TypeScript or Python, starting from a blank repository.
  • Build an appropriate mix of API, integration, component, contract, data, and end-to-end automation rather than relying primarily on UI tests.
  • Validate RESTful services, backend workflows, database integrity using SQL, and data migrations across integrated systems.
  • Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines, establishing quality gates, parallelization, and failure diagnostics.
  • Independently identify quality risks, define testing strategies, and investigate failures using application logs, network traces, and telemetry.
  • Participate in technical design and architecture discussions to identify edge cases, dependencies, and testability concerns.
  • Use AI-assisted development tools responsibly to accelerate test design, debugging, and analysis.
  • Collaborate with Software Engineers, Product Managers, Architects, DevOps, and QA/QE professionals during discovery, solution design, and release activities.
