Requirements

  • Completed a course for Scrub Technician Training preferable.
  • BLS Certification
  • Previous experience preferable.
  • Ability to work with others, at all levels within the organization, and collaborate effectively.
  • Above-average interpersonal, problem-solving, and written and oral communication skills.
  • Must be a team player to all departments, confidential of sensitive data, respectful of all other staff members, considerate of other people’s time, and accountable for work output.
  • Flexible to meet the demands of surgery schedules, patients, providers, and co-workers.
  • Maintain confidentiality relating to MMC personnel and patient information that could result in proprietary damage to MMC.

Responsibilities

  • Always demonstrates a professional behavior, both when on duty and as a representative of the hospital outside of normal work hours.

  • Has thorough knowledge of surgical techniques, procedures, and hospital standards, and to anticipate the needs of the surgeon.
  • Must have accountability to complete scheduled tasks of time.
  • Arranges surgery schedules with patients and surgery staff that is optimum for both.
  • Able to use Word Application to make forms and letters that are used in this department.
  • Must be able to work with other departments in scheduling procedures such as Lab, Radiology, and Lab.
  • Must be able to help patients with pre-operative instructions.
  • Needs to have a growing knowledge base of Medical Terminology.
  • Orders supplies for surgery.
  • Has an understanding of proper positioning, preparation and draping of the patient.
  • Checks schedules for time, type of operation, anesthesia, and surgeon.
  • Checks instruments to be used.
  • Scrubs hands and arms using the proper scrub procedure.
  • Is systematic, accurate, and conscientious in maintaining aseptic surgical technique.
  • Uses x-ray detectable sponges, radiopaque laparotomy tapes.
  • Passes handle end of instruments into operators’ hand and always anticipate his needs.
  • Places all contaminated instruments in emesis basins and remove from operative field.
  • Keeps two (2) sutures working; one in the surgeon’s hand and one prepared on the Mayo instrument stand.
  • Has specimen pan within reach.
  • Keeps instruments and Mayo stand clean, neat, and in order.
  • Keeps gloves clean and wet.
  • Checks sponge, instrument, and needle count with circulating nurse, reports the count to the surgeon as soon as he/she is ready to close.
  • Assists surgeon as needed.
  • Assists with transferring patient to and from gurney as needed.
  • Removes soiled instruments, linens and basins to the cleaning area.
  • Leaves operating room ready for use.
  • Assists the surgeon during Endoscopy procedures including retrieving specimens and managing the endoscopy equipment.
  • Prepares the procedure room for Endoscopy cases.
  • Cleans and stores the scopes appropriately.
  • Leaves the procedure room ready for use.
  • Adheres to dress code; appearance is neat and professional.
  • Completes annual education requirements if applicable.
  • Maintains regulatory requirements.
  • Wears identification while on duty.
  • Attends annual evaluation and participates actively in this process.
  • Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work in designated time.
  • Attends all meetings as appropriate.
  • Exhibits the mission, ethics and goals of Modoc Medical Center in the performance of job duties
  • Performs other duties, as assigned.
  • Willingness to work beyond normal working hours and in other positions temporarily when necessary.
  • Is involved with personnel, visitors, and government agencies, etc., when necessary.
  • Must function independently, have personal integrity, have flexibility and the ability to work effectively with other personnel, clients and support agencies.
