About The Position

The Medical Scribe supports physicians and other health care providers in a clinical setting while gaining firsthand exposure to patient care and practical experience in healthcare. The role offers an opportunity for undergraduates, post-baccalaureate students, or people taking time before medical, physician assistant, or nurse practitioner school to build medical terminology knowledge, clinical experience, professional connections, and a resume. Scribe hours count toward clinical training for most PA and medical school programs. Scribes work one-on-one with physicians and may connect with scribe alumni for mentorship. This position is at the Emergency Department of St. Bernardine Medical Center in San Bernardino, California. A one-year continuous commitment at this site is required; it is not a summer position.

Requirements

• Responsible and mature demeanor with a passion for medicine.
• Strong writing skills.
• Quick and accurate typing speed.
• Work 2–3 shifts per week, including weekends and a holiday.
• Ability to stand, walk, and follow a physician for extended periods of time.
• Ability to work in a stressful and fast-paced environment.
• Commit to one continuous year at this site; this is not a summer position.
• Excellent follow-through.
• Self-motivated.
• Completion of the scribe application test is required. Applicants applying to multiple scribe positions do not need to retake the eSkill assessment after the first time unless they want to improve their score.
