About The Position

Orthopaedic Associates of Michigan (OAM) is seeking a detail-oriented and organized Medical Scribe to assist healthcare providers by accurately documenting patient encounters and maintaining electronic medical records. The Medical Scribe serves as a vital member of the healthcare team, ensuring timely and precise documentation that allows providers to focus on patient care. OAM is West Michigan’s most established orthopaedic practice, providing exceptional, individualized care for patients of all ages. As the most comprehensive independent provider of musculoskeletal care in the region, they offer total care from diagnosis, to treatment, and rehabilitation, with access to specialized surgeons, physical and occupational therapists, MRI and X-ray services, and orthopaedic bracing. Patients can also receive care from their Bone Health Clinic, OAM Now Urgent Orthopaedic Care Clinic, and Surgery Center at MidTowne, all committed to optimizing treatment outcomes. Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Strong typing and computer proficiency.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and healthcare documentation practices.
  • Ability to accurately document patient encounters, medical histories, physical examinations, and treatment plans in real time while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and common healthcare practices.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with physicians, healthcare staff, patients, and family members.
  • Exceptional organizational, multi-tasking, and time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced clinical environment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive patient information in accordance with HIPAA and organizational policies.
  • Strong critical thinking skills and the ability to recognize incomplete or inconsistent documentation and seek clarification when needed.
  • Ability to perform well under pressure and adapt to changing priorities while maintaining accuracy and efficiency.
  • Proven positive record of attendance, dependability, and timeliness when reporting to work.
  • Working knowledge of computers and relevant applications, including electronic health record (EHR) systems, medical documentation software, and Microsoft Office products.
  • Ability to type quickly and accurately while listening, observing, and documenting simultaneously.
  • Strong attention to detail with a commitment to producing complete, accurate, and timely medical records.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods while documenting patient encounters and reviewing medical records.
  • Frequent use of computers, keyboards, and other office equipment requiring fine motor skills and repetitive hand movements.
  • Ability to accurately read, interpret, and enter information from electronic health records and other medical documentation.
  • Visual acuity sufficient to review computer screens, medical records, and written communications.
  • Hearing ability sufficient to accurately understand and document provider-patient interactions in various clinical settings.

  • Ability to move throughout clinical areas as needed to accompany providers and support patient care activities.
  • Ability to occasionally bend, reach, stoop, or lift office supplies and materials weighing up to 10 pounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a healthcare-related field.
  • Previous experience as a Medical Scribe, Medical Assistant, or healthcare support professional.
  • Familiarity with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems.
  • Certification as a Medical Scribe (preferred but not required)

Responsibilities

  • Accompany physicians or healthcare providers during patient visits and document medical histories, examinations, assessments, and treatment plans in real time.
  • Enter patient information into Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems accurately and efficiently.
  • Record laboratory results, diagnostic imaging findings, and other clinical data as directed by the provider.
  • Prepare and update patient charts prior to appointments.
  • Assist with completion of medical documentation, including progress notes, discharge summaries, referral letters, and procedure notes.
  • Ensure documentation complies with healthcare regulations, privacy laws, and organizational standards.
  • Communicate with healthcare staff to clarify documentation requirements and obtain necessary information.
  • Monitor and track incomplete records to ensure timely completion.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of patient information in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Perform other administrative and documentation-related duties as assigned.
