About The Position

Screw Machine Operator Location: 40 Chestnut Avenue, Westmont, IL 60559 Work Hours: 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday through Friday Starting Pay Range: $27 - $30 per hour Make the Right Connection—Build Your Career with Dixon! Dixon Brass , a proud division of The Dixon Group is looking for a highly experienced Screw Machine Set-up and Operator to join our team in Westmont, Illinois! In this role, you will be responsible for the complete setup, operation, and in-process inspection of our multi-spindle Acme-Gridley screw machines. The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, has a strong eye for detail, and can independently perform changeovers and adjustments to produce high-quality parts that meet precise specifications. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Proven, in-depth experience in the setup, operation, and troubleshooting of screw machines.
  • Ability to work safely and efficiently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, specifically with brass cutting.
  • Willingness to learn and take on progressive responsibilities.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods during a shift.
  • Ability to independently lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to work in a typical manufacturing environment, which may include exposure to noise, lubricants, and metal chips.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with pickoff attachments preferred.
  • Experience with roll stamping preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform full setups and changeovers, including installing cams, gears, collets, bushings, and all necessary tooling.
  • Operate one or more screw machines, load bar stock, and monitor the production process to ensure continuous and efficient operation.
  • Read and interpret complex blueprints, engineering drawings, and work orders to determine part specifications and production requirements.
  • Conduct first-piece and in-process inspections using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, depth gauges, and optical comparators.
  • Make necessary offsets and tooling adjustments to maintain dimensional accuracy and surface finish within tight tolerances.
  • Identify and resolve minor machine malfunctions, tooling wear, and quality issues.
  • Perform routine operator-level preventative maintenance, such as checking/refilling fluid levels, clearing chips, and maintaining a clean work area.
  • Accurately complete all production logs, quality documentation, and traceability records.
  • Adhere to all company safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized (5S) workspace.
  • Install and set dovetail form tools, shave tools, knee turners, and thread rolling attachments (Reed).
  • Perform drilling, counterboring, and reaming, with a strong focus on maintaining through-hole concentricity and various finishes.
  • Execute tapping and diehead threading cutting (circular chasers).
  • Roll threads and perform spot facing as required by prints.
  • Routinely stock machine materials.
  • Maintain work area, including cleaning out chips.
