About The Position

The Scopist provides administrative support to the 13th Judicial Circuit’s Stenographic Court Reporters and Circuit Court Reporter Office. The position also provides backup scoping, editing, and proofreading of court proceedings reported stenographically, using audio backup, and performs research to support transcript accuracy. The role performs scoping work for each stenographic reporter through separate include/block files and assists staff court reporters by scoping, editing, proofreading, and verifying transcripts. The Scopist may also read stenographic notes of proceedings and research names, places, and specialized medical, forensic, scientific, and technological terms.

Requirements

Two years of related work experience.
Associate’s degree or the equivalent of two years of college or vocational school education in computer operations, court reporting, paralegal, or a closely related field. Additional relevant experience may substitute for the recommended educational level on a year-for-year basis.
Knowledge of court procedures, practices, and systems.
Knowledge of legal terminology used in a court of law.
Ability to read Court Reporting stenographic notes of proceedings.
Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments.
Must be professional in all regards.

Previous stenographic court reporting or scopist experience.

Responsibilities

Provide administrative assistance and support to the 13th Judicial Circuit’s Stenographic Court Reporters and Circuit Court Reporter Office.
