About The Position

Axle is seeking a Scientist to join our vibrant team at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) supporting the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) located in Bethesda, MD.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in a related discipline and three years of experience.
  • Background in Biology
  • Proficiency in MS Office
  • Strong data presentation skills

Responsibilities

  • Designing and conducting experiments using multi-electrode recording, slice and in vivo whole-animal electrophysiological recordings, and recordings in response to optogenetic light stimulation
  • Maintaining laboratory notebooks and databases
  • Analyzing data and preparing figures, summaries, reports, and presentations
  • Training and mentoring junior staff on multi-electrode recording methods
  • Design and conduct experiments and studies requiring the application of a broad professional knowledge of scientific theories and principles.
  • Design and conduct independent experiments to complete a separate, previously initiated study using multi-electrode recording.
  • Perform electrophysiological recordings in association with ongoing studies to understand sensory coding and neural plasticity in the mammalian olfactory bulb.
  • Perform both slice recordings and in vivo whole animal recordings.
  • Perform electrical recordings in response to optogenetic-induced light stimulation.
  • Maintain and update laboratory notebooks and databases.
  • Complete the data analysis associated with the multi-electrode project.
  • Organize data from study and assemble them in figure format appropriate for publication.
  • Prepare summaries, reports, and presentations.
  • Train and provide support to staff on multi-electrode recording methods.
