The company is seeking a highly skilled, passionate, and motivated scientist to join their Downstream Process Development team. This role will involve supporting downstream unit operations and pilot-scale manufacturing campaigns. The ideal candidate will have experience with AAV purification techniques, data analysis, and reporting, with a strong desire to succeed in developing gene therapies for patients.

Requirements

  • B.S. in life sciences with 4-6 years of industry experience or M.S. in life sciences with 2-3 years of industry experience in downstream bioprocessing.
  • Previous experience in downstream unit operations (chromatography, filtration, centrifugation).
  • Hands-on experience with chromatography techniques including affinity chromatography and IEX.
  • Demonstrate a good understanding of tangential flow filtration (TFF) techniques.
  • Experience with AAV, lentivirus, or other viral vector purification.
  • Knowledge of small and pilot scale process development.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking, be self-motivated, accountable, detail-oriented, have excellent organization and communication skills, and demonstrate the ability to work both independently and as a member of a team.
  • Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision after initial training.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and interpret experimental results and effectively summarize and present conclusions.
  • Ability to work in a laboratory environment and handle occasional light to moderate lifting (up to ~50 lbs).
  • Authorization to work in the United States indefinitely without restriction or sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • Basic knowledge of analytical techniques for protein/viral vector characterization.
  • Knowledge of aseptic techniques and cell culture.
  • Familiarity with Unicorn software.
  • Familiarity with statistical analysis software (JMP, Minitab).
  • Exposure to process automation and single-use technologies.
  • Strong desire to learn new techniques and a willingness to provide upstream cross-training support.

Responsibilities

  • Execute and troubleshoot downstream purification unit operations, including affinity chromatography, tangential flow filtration (TFF), ion exchange chromatography, and ultracentrifugation.
  • Perform buffer preparation, sample collection, and in-process testing.
  • Maintain detailed laboratory notebooks and generate technical reports summarizing experimental findings.
  • Assist in pilot-scale manufacturing campaigns.
  • Execute batch records with close attention to detail.
  • Perform equipment setup, cleaning, and troubleshooting for pilot-scale unit operation.
