About The Position

Arclin is seeking talent for a Scientist or Sr. Scientist role to be filled at a level commensurate with previous work experience. The research position will be located in Macon, GA. This position will be reporting to the R&T Director, and will be focused on driving profitable growth through the development, refinement, and application development of highly relevant and differentiated, value-added chemical products. The chemical researcher will leverage both hard and soft skills including technical acumen, creativity, problem solving, project management, communication, mentorship, and collaboration within a fast-paced team environment.

Requirements

  • PhD in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering
  • 0 - 15 years of relevant industrial working experience
  • Specialization in Colloidal Surface Chemistry
  • Working Knowledge Of Rheology and rheology modification concepts
  • Working Knowledge Of Surfactant chemistry
  • Working Knowledge Of Particle science, inorganic pigments, colloids and industrial minerals
  • Working Knowledge Of Surface modification chemistries
  • Working Knowledge Of Utilization of waterborne polymers as binders, thickeners, rheology modifiers, dispersants & flocculants to solve problems in various application areas
  • Working Knowledge Of Non-halogenated flame retardant chemistries
  • Working Knowledge Of Analytical methods for the characterization and study of colloids & chemical products
  • Working Knowledge Of Statistics and Design of Experiments
  • Working Knowledge Of Intellectual property protection, patent development knowledge
  • Ability to author/co-author papers for presentation at industry trade-shows
  • Working Knowledge Of Regulatory requirements for chemical products such as TSCA, REACH, FDA, DOT, OSHA, etc.
  • Demonstrated Creativity, innovation, and problem-solving skills evidenced by development successes and granted patents for complex problems
  • Demonstrated Hands-on Formulating Skills – dispersions, micro-emulsions, paints, coatings, sealants and adhesives
  • Demonstrated Hands-on experience using pilot scale processing equipment for new product scale-up
  • Demonstrated Materials Synthesis – Inorganic chemistries, organic chemistries, nanoparticles and the chemical modification of surfaces
  • Demonstrated New product development and scale-up
  • Demonstrated Ability to manage and drive projects to completion
  • Demonstrated Ability to communicate and collaborate cross-functionally
  • Demonstrated Leadership Abilities to Supervise and mentor technicians and bench chemists

Responsibilities

  • Maintains a clean and safe lab environment in compliance with company health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures.
  • Assists R&D Director in overseeing day-to-day assigned project activities.
  • Assists R&D Director in monitoring and reporting on overall project progress.
  • Assists R&D Director in critically reviewing technical literature to understand the prior art pertinent to the team’s development projects.
  • Assists R&D Director in compiling of data and write-up of illustrative examples needed to support the filing of Patent Applications.
  • Works independently to carry out one or more breakthrough technology projects with minimal input on approach from the R&T Director being required.
  • Scopes out new chemical strategies intended to address existing product development needs and establish concrete plans of investigation.
  • Creatively develops new product and technology ideas for group and business team consideration.
  • Operates as a technical resource for team members regarding colloidal surface chemistry challenges and to address technical service or product quality questions.
