About The Position

The Materials Scientist will work within the Chemistry and Materials team to support all business units within GVH/GNF across GVH Nuclear Engineering. The role involves developing new material technology, characterizing material behavior, and performing design analyses for both plant and fuel applications. This role is located in Wilmington, NC. The team works a hybrid schedule (2-3 days onsite).

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Metallurgy, Material Science, Nuclear, or similar
  • Relocation to Wilmington, NC is required

Nice To Haves

  • Understanding of basic material property behavior
  • Knowledge or experience with ASTM and ASME Section 3, Section 7, and Section 11
  • Knowledge or experience in specific technology areas: BWR plant and fuel material processing, testing, and in-service performance behavior
  • Knowledge of BWR and PWR technology (i.e. reactor structural materials, stainless steel, nickel alloys, and zirconium alloys)
  • Demonstrated high energy and the ability to energize others
  • Self-starter with a positive, can-do attitude
  • Strong external focus; clear and demonstrated understanding of nuclear industry and/or energy industry
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to interface effectively with all levels of the organization and external customers
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines and cope under pressure
  • This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. If applicable, final offers will be contingent on ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support towards the development and execution of BWR plant and fuel related materials deliverables within both GVH and GNF businesses
  • Provide technical leadership in the development and execution of BWR material property behavior test programs
  • Perform technical evaluations, analyses and verifications in the areas of BWR nuclear plant and fuel material applications
  • Write work plans, attend pre-job briefs and follow cladding processing in shop areas
  • Work internally, with GEV-ARC, and external vendors to characterize microstructure
  • Perform work in compliance with NRC regulated policies and procedures
  • Interface with internal and external customers on technical issues
  • Support Company initiatives
  • Meet customer commitments and drive continuous improvement
