About The Position

If you are passionate about science and technology, love working on materials engineering problems, and enjoy reading literature, patents, and advancing product development, this role is for you. As a Materials Scientist you will play a key role in developing and qualifying aerospace sealants and potting compounds, with a strong emphasis on new product development based on emerging technologies. You will report to the Technical Manager, New Product Development in the Aerospace Sealants department and is located in our Aerospace Materials Science & Technology Center, Burbank, CA. Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Materials Science, Polymer Science, Materials Chemistry, or Materials Engineering.
  • Deep understanding of scientific principles, materials engineering and formulations, including structure-function relationships in the context of material performance.
  • Thrives in a technical role, enjoys reading papers and patents, and is driven by scientific exploration.
  • Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident.

Nice To Haves

  • 3+ years in materials engineering / formulation development within the space of sealants, adhesives, coatings, composites, or polymeric materials.
  • Experience taking products from development to market with a strong understanding of the commercialization process.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct 60-70% hands-on work focusing on materials engineering and formulation development, literature reviews, intellectual property assessment, and customer engagement to qualify products.
  • Work on cutting-edge sealants and potting compounds, ensuring successful formulation and product development.
  • Apply experience in taking products from concept to commercialization, overcoming the challenges of new formulation development and securing specifications for market success.
  • Develop and implement new technologies, ensuring that they translate into successful commercial products.
  • Work closely with various departments to ensure the successful scale-up, qualification, and commercialization of new materials and product line extensions.
