About The Position

Thermo Fisher Scientific invests over $1 billion in R&D each year and is seeking a Scientist III, Molecular Biology to lead technical exploration and find effective solutions for improving molecular diagnostic products in transplant medicine. This role requires self-motivation and the ability to connect individual tasks to larger goals. The position is 100% on-site in West Hills, CA, and relocation assistance is not provided. Requirements

  • Bachelors in Biological Sciences, Molecular Bio or a related field AND 5+ years of laboratory experience in an academic or R&D industrial environment
  • OR Master's in Biological Sciences, Molecular Bio or a related field AND 3+ years relevant post-graduate experience
  • OR PhD degree in Biological Sciences, Molecular Bio or a related field with a minimum of 1 year of relevant post-doctoral experience
  • Knowledge of molecular biology and recombinant DNA techniques
  • Strong understanding of molecular biology and relevant techniques such as DNA isolation and quantification, gene amplification methods, quantitative PCR, sequencing, and other relevant technologies
  • Experience with primer and probe designs
  • Experience in crafting experiments and interpreting data and addressing issues to improve product performance with innovative solutions
  • Ability to collaborate with diverse groups of people, strong communication skills
  • Ability to support process improvement, customer inquiries, staff training as needed
  • Well-developed written communication abilities, experience in preparing technical documentation such as plans, reports, technical reviews
  • Ability to prepare technical publications and presentations
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship
  • Must be able to pass a comprehensive background check, which includes a drug screening

Responsibilities

  • Assist in crafting and completing feasibility studies to explore novel ideas
  • Design and execute experiments following GMP practices
  • Validate and record newly developed processes and protocols
  • Responsible for understanding and performing daily testing of reagents for extent, improvement, and troubleshooting HLA gene typing products or related issues
  • Handle and maintain laboratory environment and equipment needed to carry out assigned projects
  • Prepare SOPs, study plans, reports, and other internal documents as well as maintain/update current SOPs for existing products
  • Actively participate in meetings and technical problem solving
  • Assist in project planning, supervise the progress, prepare and present summary reports
  • Function as a lead for time-sensitive projects and provide support to the team to achieve the best results
  • Conduct literature search, proactively monitor relevant diagnostic market, proactively seek opportunities for innovation, and write proposals for grants or manuscripts for publication
  • Maintain confidentiality of critical laboratory and business data
  • Understand and follow Thermo Fisher quality policies and procedures
