Scientist II/Senior Scientist, Cell and Molecular Biology

Magnet Biomedicine•Boston, MA
•$130,000 - $170,000

About The Position

Magnet Biomedicine is seeking a highly motivated, hands-on biologist to design, execute, and interpret experiments that develop protein-protein interaction strategies for modulating target protein function. The role contributes to the discovery and development of molecular glue therapeutics, including next-generation treatments for oncology, immunology, and inflammation. The successful candidate will conduct phenotypic cell-based assays, enzymatic assays, and binding experiments, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team. The position calls for scientific curiosity, collaboration, and the ability to expand technical expertise in a fast-paced research environment.

Requirements

  • PhD in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, or a related discipline with 2–8 years of biotech experience; or a BS/MS with 8+ years of industry experience, including biotech.
  • Hands-on experience with small-molecule binding and inhibition assays.
  • Strong experimental design, execution, and analytical skills.
  • Strong analytical mindset and familiarity with relevant statistical methods.
  • Experience working with human whole blood, human biopsies, and/or lentivirus (BCL2+).
  • Scientific productivity demonstrated through publications, presentations, or equivalent accomplishments.
  • Proficiency with scientific data analysis and visualization software.
  • Intellectual curiosity, scientific rigor, and a positive, collegial attitude.
  • Willingness to learn new techniques and rapidly develop expertise in emerging technologies.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on work with molecular glue therapeutics or targeted protein degradation approaches.
  • Strong working knowledge of immunology or oncology.
  • Experience using confocal and fluorescence microscopy methodologies in drug discovery.
  • Experience leveraging flow cytometry and cell-based screening platforms to support research and discovery efforts.
  • Demonstrated ability to oversee and collaborate with external CROs to achieve project objectives and timelines.

Responsibilities

  • Design and execute cellular and molecular biology experiments to support discovery programs.
  • Evaluate protein-protein interactions using approaches such as NanoBiT, NanoBRET, IP-MS, ALPHAscreen, and related technologies.
  • Experiment with human whole blood, human biopsies, and/or lentivirus (BCL2+).
  • Analyze experimental data, draw scientific conclusions, and communicate results to project teams and company colleagues.
  • Maintain accurate and complete experimental records in the electronic laboratory notebook (ELN).
  • Independently troubleshoot technical experimental challenges and seek input when appropriate.
  • Collaborate with scientists across disciplines to solve scientific problems and advance research objectives.
  • Expand technical expertise and adopt new methodologies to support evolving research needs.
