Scientist II, High Throughput Antibody Production

AbbVieWorcester, MA
$84,500 - $162,000Onsite

About The Position

AbbVie's Biotherapeutics and Genetic Medicine group is seeking a highly motivated Research Scientist to join a dynamic team supporting biologics drug discovery and protein engineering. In this role, you will make a meaningful impact on programs by leveraging automation technologies to generate and characterize therapeutic proteins. A typical production campaign will encompass molecular design, mammalian tissue culture, protein purification, protein characterization (e.g., MS, SEC, DSF), and binding assays (e.g., ELISA). You will serve as the primary point of contact for protein design and production campaigns and interface directly with therapeutic area collaborators. Beyond your expertise as a protein scientist, you will play a key role in building our next-generation molecular biology capabilities to support a rapid design-build-test cycle for therapeutic binders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field with typically 7+ years (BS) or 5+ years (MS) of pharmaceutical and/or relevant industry experience
  • Strong knowledge of biologics, antibody fragments, and protein mimetics; ability to apply understanding of protein structure and function to design therapeutic modalities
  • Proficiency in molecular biology techniques, sequence analysis, and protein engineering fundamentals
  • Hands-on experience executing and developing mammalian cell culture and transfection workflows
  • Competence in protein purification and in vitro analytical characterization techniques (e.g., SEC, MS, DSF)
  • Experience with workflow and assay optimization using statistical analysis
  • Strong ability to engage and collaborate with internal and external scientific leaders
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with cell-free production and screening of therapeutic binders is a plus
