About The Position

Mettle Ops is seeking a Scientist II to support multi-program environmental compliance at Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane, one of the Navy's most environmentally complex installations. This mid-level scientist position will provide technical depth across a broad range of environmental programs managed by the NSWC Crane Environmental Protection Branch. This is a full-time, on-site position contingent upon contract award.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in a life science, physical science, environmental science, or a closely related field
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in a relevant life or physical science discipline
  • Demonstrated experience preparing NEPA documents, environmental compliance reports, or natural resources technical reports for a DoD or Federal client
  • U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain a Secret clearance

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting DoD Natural Resources, Cultural Resources, or Environmental Management System programs
  • Proficiency with ESRI ArcGIS 10.1 or above
  • Familiarity with Indiana-specific regulatory requirements under IDEM
  • Experience with OPNAV 5090.1 environmental compliance requirements

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support across a portfolio of environmental programs that may include NEPA document preparation and environmental review, Cultural Resources compliance support, Natural Resources management including endangered species surveys and Integrated Natural Resource Management Plan (INRMP) implementation, GIS mapping and data management using ESRI ArcGIS, Forestry Services including silvicultural assessments and forest inventory field data collection, Environmental Management System development and implementation, and technical report preparation and regulatory agency correspondence.
  • Draft technical documents and regulatory reports for review by Government program managers.
  • Assist in conducting environmental inspections and audits.
  • Support development of studies addressing emerging mission activities and regulatory requirements.
  • Field work at both the Crane, Indiana installation and the Lake Glendora Test Facility in Sullivan, Indiana is expected.
