LATA is currently searching for an Environmental Scientist II for the Site Environmental Compliance section for the project in Carlsbad, New Mexico. This is a government contract to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) supporting the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP). The WIPP Site Environmental Compliance section of LATA provides environmental regulatory technical expertise on all facets of environmental compliance at the WIPP facility. The Environmental Scientist II works collaboratively with the Management & Operating Contractor, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Carlsbad Field Office (CBFO), New Mexico Environment Department (NMED), U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), various Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) site departments, waste-disposal and analytical laboratory subcontractors, and other environmental groups within the LATA organization to ensure that Federal, State, and any local regulatory requirements are satisfied. Areas of responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: • Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act (SARA) • Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) • Clean Water Act (CWA) • Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA) • Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) • National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) • Environmental Management Systems (EMS) This position works collaboratively with a group of professionals who generate biennial, annual, and semi-annual reports required by environmental regulations, permits, DOE Orders, and contract deliverables. The Environmental Compliance group also conducts inspections and manages site generated low-level, mixed low-level, and hazardous waste for off-site disposal.
