About The Position

The Lewis laboratory in the Department of Biomolecular Chemistry at the University of Wisconsin-Madison seeks a Scientist I to support research on chromatin regulation and pediatric brain tumors. Working under the general supervision of the principal investigator (PI), the scientist will conduct assigned molecular and cell-based experiments, collect and analyze data, and maintain accurate experimental records using established procedures. The work includes mammalian cell culture and protein analysis, including Western blotting. Within PI-defined projects, the scientist will assist with experimental planning and troubleshooting, review relevant literature, prepare figures and brief research summaries, and contribute data and methods descriptions for publications and grant applications. The scientist will discuss results with the PI and project collaborators. The PI will establish research priorities and review experimental plans, interpretations, and written materials. This position requires work to be completed onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Requirements

Research experience in molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology, or a closely related field. Relevant experience may be obtained through doctoral research or subsequent research employment.
Experience with mammalian cell culture and protein analysis, including Western blotting.
Ability to conduct assigned experiments under general supervision, follow established procedures, and maintain accurate experimental records.
Ability to organize and analyze experimental data, prepare figures and brief summaries, and communicate results and technical problems to the PI and research team.

Responsibilities

Attends and assists with the facilitation of scholarly events and presentations in support of continued professional development and the dissemination of research information
Collects and analyzes research data, conducts experiments and interviews, and documents results according to established policies and procedures under general supervision and limited responsibility
Writes or assists in developing grant applications and proposals to secure research funding
Conducts literature reviews, prepares reports and materials, and disseminates information to appropriate entities
Serves as a main point of contact and liaison with internal and external stakeholders providing information and representing the interests of a specialized research area
Assists with the identification of research problems and the development of research methodologies and procedures
