About The Position

The Scientist I works in an environmental testing laboratory, conducting hands-on analysis to help ensure the integrity and quality of environmental data affecting communities and ecosystems. The role analyzes air, water, and soil samples for environmental contaminants using established chemistry and biochemistry methods and laboratory instruments such as GC, HPLC, and ICP. The Scientist reviews and interprets analysis results and maintains organized, high-quality laboratory records. Training is provided.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or another STEM-related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Ability to work effectively in a laboratory environment.
• Ability to stand for extended periods.
• Ability to work around strong odors.
• Ability to wear required personal protective equipment, including a lab coat, safety glasses, and gloves.

Responsibilities

• Analyze air, water, and soil samples for environmental contaminants using established chemistry and biochemistry methods.
• Operate laboratory instruments such as GC, HPLC, and ICP.
• Review and interpret sample analysis results.
• Accurately document procedures, observations, and results in organized laboratory records.
• Clean, maintain, and calibrate laboratory instruments and equipment.
