Scientist I/Scientist II - Structural Biology

NurixBrisbane, CA
$133,917 - $159,890Onsite

About The Position

This role is located at the interface of Nurix’s DEL driven drug discovery engine and preclinical drug development platform. The strategic impact of this role is the elucidation and communication of small molecule interactions with drug targets to provide mechanistic understanding and guide design of clinical drug candidates. As a member of the early discovery department, you will make key contributions to validation and characterization of novel chemical matter for our targeted protein degradation platform. In addition to that, you will participate in multiple small and agile teams of drug discovery veterans and help achieve discovery and development milestones.

Requirements

  • MS with 8 or more years' relevant experience or PhD in structural biology, biochemistry, biophysics, or a related field; 4+ years of hands-on academic or industry experience.
  • Demonstrated deep expertise in X-ray crystallography, cryo-EM, or both. Independent deployment of both technologies is strongly preferred
  • Experience and Proficiency using specialized software platforms such as Phenix, Coot, CryoSPARC, RELION, PyMOL, and Chimera/ChimeraX to determine, visualize, and refine 3D protein and molecular structures from experimental data
  • Exceptional attention to detail, rigorous record keeping, and keen scientific curiosity
  • Strong scientific communication skills with the ability to present complex structural data to diverse, cross-functional audiences
  • Ability to work strategically, independently, and collaboratively in a fast-paced, matrix research environment

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in drug discovery or biopharmaceutical setting is highly desirable
  • Experience with protein degrader technologies
  • Working experience with ubiquitin ligases, transcription factors, or membrane proteins
  • Additional skills in SAXS, NMR, HDX-MS, machine learning, or computational structural biology

Responsibilities

  • Design and execute end-to-end gene-to-structure workflows: construct design, protein engineering, experimental planning, and structure determination
  • Determine high-resolution structures of protein–ligand and protein complexes using X-ray crystallography and cryo-EM
  • Own all aspects of sample preparation, data collection, processing, model building, refinement, and documentation
  • Translate structural findings into actionable insights for project teams, and present results to colleagues and senior leadership in written and oral formats
  • Partner with computational chemistry and machine learning groups to drive rational drug design and enhance proprietary computational platforms
  • Serve as a structural biology resource across the research organization, providing mechanistic rationale to support project decisions
  • Maintain rigorous laboratory records and contribute to scientific reports, publications, and patent filings
  • Help establish and continuously improve best practices, protocols, and SOPs within the structural biology group
  • Build and maintain deep command of the structural mechanisms of protein ubiquitylation and degradation

Benefits

  • competitive salary and benefits package
